I spent the last couple of week visiting with Mariah'swonderful family in Victoria BC. We were able to sneak off for a couple of days and do some sketching. To the right here are my favorite 2 sketches from our little adventures.

I am just itching to color these... if I have some time I might try something new with them... being sketches and all.

Preparing for Art on the Street: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

I documented the process of creating prints for Art on the Street (which takes place tomorrow morning...egad). Hopefully this gives a nice little preview of the pieces that I will have available, and the work that went into them, and how I cut off all access to our kitchen for an entire afternoon (and lived to tell about it).

You can find me at booth # 25, along Quebec street, towards baker street. All of these will be available for purchase at a reasonable price. Interesting trades welcome.

I am one of the Artists featured in the 9th annual Guelph Art on the Street, taking place on Quebec street on July the 16th.

The picture above is a tiny preview of a couple of the pieces, in the series I am doing just for the event. Both originals, hand prints, and prints will be available for purchase at the event, plus some older work as well. I will update with final images as we get closer to the day. In the meantime check out the program to plan out your most efficient meander.

I enjoyed my Rat at at piece so much that I decided to begin a series based on it. I am not quite sure of the story behind it yet, but rest assured, it will involve misadventures of the best kind.

Still experimenting with Lino, and still enjoying it quite a bit. I already have the next piece in this series sketched out, and just today I purchased a lino block big enough for it. Colour me excited.

Goldie Mill

A few days ago I pick ed up and moved to wonderful Guelph Ontario. It is a great community, with lots of artsy folk, and awesome architecture. In my initial adventuring I came across Goldie Mill Park, a park which is situated around the ruins of Goldie Mill (and 5 minutes from my new place). The best part is that the Mill is right in the middle of the park, and you can fully explore its bad self. So yesterday my good friend Corey Waurechen and I went out and sketched the hell out of it (until we were rained out).

For shame. I realized that I never posted this project on here. I will go ahead and chalk it up to my temporary hiatus from the blogging world at the time. This was a major research/info Illustration project, art directed by the awesome Claire Ironside. It was published in the winter 2009 issue of spacing magazine.

In a quest to make the "design" portion of my website look more professional, I have begun reworking some images for it. I have yet to figure out exactly how to fit that in with the "handmade" look of my website, but first things first right.

My first Post school.. Post, how exhilarating! I have wanted to do some more lino work for a while now, and now that I have all the time in the world, I can!

This piece is based on a sketch I did a while ago that really tickled my ribs. Lino can be a real kick in the pants sometimes, because it is so unforgiving. But you end up with happy mistakes, which can be a lot of fun.

With my grad show looming in the coming days, and my preparations and assignments complete; I reserved a couple days to finally sleep. With my sanity regained, I felt confident to tackle my website again. And tackle it I did!!

My final thesis piece is about the obesity epidemic. I recently wrote a short story for my science fiction elective, about a world where obesity was the norm, where it was not only accepted, but expected that people are overweight. The scary thing is, our society seems to be on that terrible path.

This piece is about the recent G8 controversy, over the conservative governments choice not to focus on contraception to reduce maternal and childhood deaths, in poor countries. The outcry was such, that the decision was reversed, and played down, but I think its pretty easy to understand the reasoning for the original choice.

Last weekend I went to see the play "cloud 9" with my girlfriend. The play was great, hilarious, vulgar, sexy.... everything one could ask for. However sitting in the seats directly in front of me was this juiced up middle aged woman, on a date with a guy who looked to be slightly older then me. This wouldn't normally be any of my concern, however throughout the entirety of the show (2 hours +) this couple made out like teenagers in the back of a movie theater. For a large part of the production I could not see the stage for their antics. Normally the procedure would be to ask the couple to knock it off, however we were sitting 4 rows back from the stage, and any altercation would have been overheard by the actors (and this woman had an air of smugness to her which screamed "entitled").

The first project(s) for graphic design this year have been covers for short stories. The first (Mother and the Bath) is about depression and suicide. The second (Haywire), poverty and dead babies. Totally uplifting stuff.

For the first Interpretive project of this semester we had a quick one week interpretation of the myth of Sisyphus. So here we are. Once upon a time I worked a summer job at a labeling plant, and one of my duties as a student worker was putting bottles in boxes. Although not exactly pushing a boulder up a hill for all of eternity, I do hope this is the closest I ever get to that.

As a part of our grad show, my entire year has been asked to create 6 separate illustrations, for a personal "cube". As you have probably pieced together, one of the sides was a self portrait, and here it is. During the video conference with rethink (the design firm handling our grad show), as an example,one of the art directors suggested we depict our animal spirit. This got me to thinking, what animal I would really like to fight. So here we have it, I am fighting a Puma! I think a Puma would make a formidable opponent, having all of the abilities of any large feline, however more importantly it is smaller then say, a lion or a tiger, which I think would give me a fair chance at taking it on in death match scenario.
